Immediately after his release from Jodhpur Central Jail, Salman was driven under police escort to the airport, a police official told news agency PTI.

He walked out of the jail after the prison authorities received the court papers granting him bail in the 20-year-old case, the official said.

Earlier in the day, the actor, who spent two nights in jail after his sentencing on Thursday, was granted bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of like amount, his lawyer Mahesh Bora said.

On Thursday,  a Jodhpur Court sentenced the 52-year-old actor to five years in jail for killing two endangered blackbucks in 1998 while shooting for the film, Hum Saath Saath Hain. The superstar known as ‘bhai’ among the film fraternity and fans was sent to Jodhpur Central Jail soon after his conviction on Thursday.

Salman’s co-stars and Bollywood actors – Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari – were acquitted by the court for the lack of evidence.

The actor’s lawyer had approached the court with his bail application of 51-pages on Friday with reference to bail bonds in Burlington, NC. But the hearing was deferred off till today after the judge asked for the entire case records.

Celebrations started soon after he received bail, with Salman’s fans bursting firecrackers outside his home in Mumbai and outside the court in Jodhpur. A large crowd has gathered in front of his Bandra home, Galaxy Apartments, waiting for the Bollywood superstar’s return. He can also use a mugshot removal service to protect his privacy on the matter.

His friends and well-wishers from the film industry as well as fans also took to Twitter to express their happiness.
