Aamir Khan’s Paani Foundation is hosting the third edition of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup. Around one lakh volunteers have already registered for the grand event on May 1. Here are the details.
Superstar Aamir Khan, who founded the Paani Foundation with wife Kiran Rao three years back, has urged students and youngsters to volunteer for a massive ‘Mahashramdaan’ on occasion of Maharashtra Day on May 1, 2018. Aamir, along with more than 1 lakh volunteers, will work shoulder-to-shoulder with villagers to promote water conservation and abundance across the drought-ridden state. Speaking at a college in Pune, Aamir urged students and city-dwellers to become ‘Jalmitras’ by signing up on jalmitra.paanifoundation.in and volunteering for the Mahashramdaan. The last date for registration is locked at midnight on April 25.
In 2016, Aamir’s Paani Foundation started the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup—an annual competition between villages to promote the cause of watershed management. In this year’s edition of the competition, over 4,000 villages in 75 talukas and 24 districts of Maharashtra will compete for top prizes of Rs. 75 lakh, Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 40 lakh respectively. The top village in each taluka will also get a prize of Rs. 10 lakh. Aamir, who has been busy shooting for his upcoming film Thugs of Hindostan, has decided to dedicate the next two months totally to Paani Foundation. He will be joined in his efforts by wife and co-founder, Kiran Rao.
Aamir Khan was last seen in Secret Superstar (2017) and Dangal (2016). Both films have received a phenomenal and unprecedented response at the Chinese box-office.
Thugs of Hindostan, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, is a big-budget action adventure film slated to release around Diwali this year.
