France Appoints Assam Girl As Ambassador to Inspire Scientists of Tomorrow!

Priyanka Das has been appointed as the ambassador of “For Girls and Science”, an initiative that was launched in 2014 to promote scientific pursuits amongst young people and especially, girls.

From being one of the few to work for the satellite navigation wing of Rafale Fighter Jets of France, to make a micro-satellite in Paris, Priyanka Das has a list of incredible achievements.

The Assamese girl has now added a new achievement to her list. She has been appointed as the ambassador of “For Girls and Science”, an initiative that was launched in 2014 to promote scientific pursuits amongst young people and especially, girls.

Talking to PTI, the 26-year-old scientist, says, “As part of the programme, we meet middle school and high school students, and through talks and presentations, we try to clear the misconceptions about scientists and women in science,”

The Ministry of National Education of France and the L’Oreal Foundation support the initiative.

Priyanka has been contributing her expertise in satellite navigation for the French Defence Company, Safran, while pursuing her PhD.

She told the Assam Times about her PhD topic “Robust and Precise Navigation using Tightly-coupled Hybridisation of Inertial and GNSS Phase Measurements”. It studies the navigation signals from satellite systems like GPS and fuses them with other physical navigation devices to find a robust solution for a super precise position, of the order of centimeters.

“I had the chance of visiting Safran when I was a first-year student at Polytechnique. It was a visit organised by ISAE Supaero, an aerospace engineering school in the south of France. I was very impressed with the work they did at Safran and dreamt of working there one day,” she says

And her dream did come true as her works have been highly insightful in the field of navigation systems. Her achievements are truly an inspiration for the younger generation.
