It’s counting day in the Gujarat assembly election, the biggest poll of the year. People in Himachal Pradesh, too, will be glued to their television and mobile phone screens: it may not have been apparent from the news that dominated the airwaves in the last few days, but the Himachal Pradesh election result will be out today, too.
It will all become clear in a few hours. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, a candidate from Rajkot West, will find out if he’s won another term in his state’s Assembly. So will his Himachal Pradesh counterpart, Virbhadra Singh.
Will Rahul Gandhi’s Congress pull off the biggest upset of the year in the Gujarat election – in Prime Minister Narendra Modis home state? It would be the best possible present for the new party chief. Will the Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) win big in Himachal Pradesh, as exit polls have predicted it will – or will the Congress remain in charge?
