Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. Today is his 83rd birthday.
Kalam is also known as the ‘Missile Man’ of India for his contribution to the development of the ballistic missile.
Kalam had graduated from the Madras Institute of Technology, after which he worked at DRDO and ISRO.
He played a key role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.

He was also the project director of India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
