Sesame oil is extracted from sesame seeds. Sesamum indicum is the scientific name given for sesame seeds and is one of the oils which is used since ancient lore.The use of sesame seeds dates back to the ancient Egyptian era around 1500 B.C, when it was used to treat pain.

In China, it is said to have been in use for food and medicinal purposes for more than 3000 years. Sesame seeds, though tiny, are packed with proteins, antioxidants, vitamin E, B complex vitamin, and minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium.

It is known to be one of the healthiest edible oils. This oil is used not only for cooking but also for therapeutic purposes. Hence, it is widely used in ayurvedic medicines. Due to its nutritional content, it is often referred to as the ‘queen of oils’.

Skin Benefits:The usage of sesame seeds moisturizes the skin, keeping it smooth and preventing wrinkles. This oil is also used to heal a number of skin disorders and can be used as a natural sunscreen. The oil absorbs quickly on the skin, nourishing it and helps to get rid of the dryness and cracks.

Provides Relief from Rheumatoid Arthritis:  A mineral that is important for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant enzyme systems, copper is known for reducing pain and swelling associated with arthritis. Additionally, this mineral helps provide strength to blood vessels, bones, and joints.

Oil Pulling with Sesame Oil:
One may be familiar with the ancient practice of oil pulling. For those f you who don’t know, oil pulling is the act of swishing oil inside the mouth. Commonly, coconut oil is popular for this practice. Sesame oil can also be used for oil pulling.
Take a mouthwash amount of sesame oil. Swish it inside the mouth for about 5 minutes. It kills bad bacteria in the mouth, fungi species like candida that cause oral thrush, protects teeth and gums. This practice is also helpful in gingivitis.

Sesame Oil For Hair Shine:
Rub 2-3 drops of the oil in between your palms and then apply it to your hair. Not only will this add shine, it will also work as a leave-in conditioner.
