Ready Player One trailer: Steven Spielberg’s next is set in a dystopian future where virtual reality rules

The trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi movie Ready Player One was launched at San Diego Comic Con and it seems like this highly anticipated movie is set to be a crowd favourite.

Ready Player One is based on Ernest Cline’s best-selling science fiction novel of the same name. The plot is set in a dystopian future in 2045 and revolves around a teenager named Wade Watts who lives in Columbus, Ohio in what they call “stacks” which are basically poverty-stricken settlements one above the other.

He calls his generation that of the “missing millenials” and that there is no where else to go in that futuristic world, except the OASIS, a virtual reality world that is an Avatar-meets-Tron-meets-Mad-Max universe where “the limits of reality are one’s own imagination”.

The whole film seems to be masterfully crafted using a lot of high-quality CGI and VFX — with high-octane action, motion-sensing robots, car and bike chases — all set in a world never seen before. After all, the project is captained by none other than Steven Spielberg himself, hence one can only expect a spectacle of supreme quality.

The film stars Tye Sheridan (remember Cyclops from X-Men: Apocalypse ?), Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and TJ Miller. It also features Simon Pegg and Academy Award winner Mark Rylance.

Written by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline, Ready Player One is produced by Spielberg, Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah. The film is slated to release on 30 March 2018.
