The It trailer is most-watched trailer ever, racing ahead of Fate of the Furious

The first trailer for the hotly-anticipated horror film It broke the record for the most-watched movie trailer ever in the first 24 hours of release.

The trailer, released on Wednesday garnered 197 million views across all platforms, reports Collider.com. This is a significant jump from the previous record-holder, the first Fate of the Furious trailer, which scored 139 million views in its first 24 hours of release.

When extended to 36 hours, the It trailer’s number jumps to 246 million.

The Fate of the Furious is a major action franchise, currently prepping for the release of its eighth installment. The seven previous films in the series have grossed $3.9 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the ninth highest-grossing franchise ever.

In comparison, It is the first film in what is potentially going to be a two-movie series based on author Stephen King’s celebrated novel about a clown that terrorises a small town. The film, directed by Andres Muschietti, is scheduled for a September 8 release
