The Politicians Weren’t Doing It. So Mumbai Citizens Inaugurated a Flyover Themselves!

When a controversy between politicians delayed the inauguration of a flyover in Mumbai, the residents of the area decided to take the matters in their own hands and inaugurated it themselves.

Have you been to those events in which the chief guests, politicians and prominent personalities take forever to arrive? Something similar happened during the inauguration of a flyover at Jogeshwari in Mumbai.

When the inauguration of the 2.25km long flyover connecting Jogeshwari East and West was delayed due to a tiff between Shiv Sena and BJP, citizens took the matter into their own hands and inaugurated the flyover themselves.

Yes, that scenario which we always imagine in our heads whenever politicians make us wait for long hours, actually took shape on Saturday. The controversy began when it could not be decided whether the Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, or Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis should cut the ribbon.

But the aam janta was in no mood to wait for the VIPs any more. Hence they just went ahead and did the needful by inaugurating it themselves.

“Sometimes, you have to take charge and be the change. After hearing about the new Jogeshwari flyover. I decided to ride it but was disappointed that it hadn’t been inaugurated yet. I removed the barriers and drove to the other side where a few boys helped me push aside another barrier. We self-inaugurated it. We don’t need ministers. Happy Independence Day,” said a Facebook post by Sampath K Iyengar, a resident of Jogeshwari.

S.O. Kori, chief engineer (bridges department) BMC, said that the flyover hasn’t been officially inaugurated and additional security has been asked for it.
