The first trailer for the Tom Hardy-led Venom has landed, and it has fans in a state of uproar.
Tom Hardy as the titular Spider-Man villain — is here, and it makes the, shall we say, “curious” choice of not actually showing Venom at all.
This teaser is all about the painful and traumatic transformation of Eddie Brock into Venom that Sam Raimi’s film completely skipped.
As an aside, Venom is also more commonly depicted as a supervillian, not a hero. Sony’s description calls him a “lethal protector” — which seems a bit of a stretch — but we’ll see, I guess. Because the superhero genre definitely needs another brooding antihero who struggles with his literal (and metaphoric) demons.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom will release on October 5 and will also launch a universe based on Spider-Man characters. It will eventually include a movie based on Silver Sable and Black Cat which is scheduled to release on February 8, 2019.
