Get a room.
How casually we throw this remark out to anyone indulging in some good ol’ PDA. But getting a room and not being able to get out of it would pose quite the predicament. The trailer of Vikramaditya Motwane’s next film Trapped, starring Rajkummar Rao, goes beyond this predicament.
The first half of the trailer draws a character sketch of Rao. What do we know about him? He is good at wearing his shoes while standing, has a nagging girlfriend awaiting his arrival and fervently prays to the almighty before leaving for the day. But none of that matters a few seconds later after he gets trapped in his own room after locking himself inside.
Motwane toys with this idea intermittently in the first half by pointing out to his jammed lock twice and a bad omen of the Welcome sign on a wall wearing itself off on the verge of him getting trapped. But how bad can getting trapped in your own room be?
A lot, if you have moved into a new deserted apartment in Mumbai. The trailer speaks volumes of the isolated life that a tier-I city dweller lives in the event of getting separated from one’s smartphone. This trap may not be as adventurous or inescapable as that of Life of Pi or say, a Sarbjit. But the horror is real.
Rao projects a plethora of emotions within two minutes — from fear to rising above it, from solitude to isolation and from desperate cries of help to evil bouts of laughter. He aces every emotion but it would trickle in only when the film is watched in a secluded room and not in the reassuring comforts of a cinema hall.
Trapped is slated to release on 17 March.
