The endless controversy surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, now renamed Padmaavat. The film attracted fire from fringe Rajput groups, who claim that the film is a distortion of history.
The film is based on the poem, Padmavat, written by Sufi poet Muhammad Malik Jayasi, written in the 15th century. It tells the tale of the beautiful Rani Padmini of Chittor, who committed jauhar (self-immolation), to avoid falling into the hands of Turkish invader Alauddin Khilji.
In the midst of furore and unrest, Padmaavat was postponed from December 1 2017.
Despite getting the green light from the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), the protests against Padmaavat continue.
