Gautam Gambhir pledges IPL 2017 prize money to families of Sukma martyrs

Gautam Gambhir had recently pledged to bear expenses for the education of the children of paramilitary personnel killed in the Suma attack.

On Friday, after he led Kolkata Knight Riders to a seven-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils, the stylish southpaw walked the talk and said all his prize money in IPL 2017 would be given to the families of the Sukma martyrs.

Recently, following the attack by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district in which 25 CRPF jawans lost their lives, the 35-year-old asked for action and response in retaliation to the loss of lives.

Gambhir, on Friday, was named man-of-the-match for his unbeaten 71 as KKR cruised to their seventh win of the season. At the end of the post-match presentation ceremony, he announced that all the prize money he has won so far in IPL 2017 and will win over the remaining games will go to the CRPF jawans.

“Whatever awards I’ve earned till now and going to earn, all money goes to CRPF jawans,” he said.

Recently, Gambhir, in an emotional blog for KKR, wrote how he was shaken up by the sight of “gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks :””The recent CRPF attacks in Chhattisgarh were still fresh in my mind. On Wednesday morning I picked up newspapers and saw gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks. One of them was saluting her martyr father while in the other picture the howling young woman was being consoled by her relative.”

The 35-year-old batsman from Delhi then went on to pledge that his foundation would take care of the entire education expenses of the children of the Sukma martyrs.

“Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the children of these martyrs. My team has already started work on this and I shall soon share progress we have made. I was little bit at ease when I reached the ground.”
