Suspected asteroid blast in Northern China

New Delhi: A suspected asteroid blast was recorded on November 5, 2014, by a surveillance camera installed at Xilinhot South expressway toll station of Inner Mongolia, Northern China. The dark night of the city was lit up by the blast.

Video footage at the expressway toll station shows that around four o’clock in the morning, a sudden white flash blazed for about four seconds across the night sky.

Li Fanchao, an operator at the toll station was quoted as saying, “It’s about four o’clock in the morning and I was on duty. Suddenly a flash flew over sky… it lit up the night like daytime. It lasts just for three to four seconds”.

According to a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Science, Wang Sichao, the size of the asteroids was about three to four meters in diameter which is a little bigger than a car.

“Every year asteroids fallen onto the earth can be seen usually without any destruction,” he added.
