Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone, but for the few of us who have caught the bug, it can be an amazing, roller coaster of a ride. If you’re feeling like you need a career change, here are the top seven reasons you should consider giving up your day job and starting your own business:

1. You want freedom.

Do you go to work and sit behind a desk, feeling like a caged animal? Entrepreneurship could be the only way you break those chains and escape. What makes being an entrepreneur such a rewarding job is the independence that comes with it. No one is going to tell you what to do. You are the only one in control of your success, and thus, you reap all the rewards.

2. You want to create a legacy.

While it might seem like the human life is long at 80 to 100 years, in the grand scheme of things, it really isn’t. Our lives are but a mere blip on the radar as far as human existence goes. But what if you could create something that outlived you–something that preserved your legacy and helped others? You can by starting your own business! Look at some of history’s greatest entrepreneurs: Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs. These individuals aren’t alive any more and yet the legacy they left behind still impacts us daily.

3. You don’t want someone telling you what to do. From the moment we’re put in kindergarten to the moment we leave college, we are told what to learn, how to study, and even when to eat. In a way, we’ve been brainwashed into doing what others tell us (without any regard for why). Entrepreneurs loathe this type of environment and, for most people, it’s why they became entrepreneurs in the first place–they didn’t like following other people’s orders. If you find yourself rejecting authority and attracted to figuring out how to solve problems your own way, entrepreneurship might be for you.

4. You want to earn fast money.

Now, this won’t necessarily happen on day one. However, once you’ve put in the time and effort to build your business, the money can start pouring in. This isn’t an exaggeration. Your business and how much it makes are a direct byproduct of how much time and effort you put into it. If you work very hard, you’ll make more money (the opposite is also true). The same can’t be said for a job in the corporate world. Too many times, raises are overlooked and bonuses are cut even when an employee worked harder.

5. You’re passionate about learning.

What most people don’t know is that being an entrepreneur is 50 percent learning and 50 percent implementing that knowledge. The first year of building my business, I spent as much time as I could taking courses, reading books, and listening to podcasts. It was only after this initial learning period that I was able to implement this knowledge and create a successful business. And while some learning can be done through books and podcasts, a lot of what you learn about running a business is through experience and even through making mistakes.

6. You see the world differently.

Often times, entrepreneurs seem a little “off” to those who aren’t entrepreneurs. This is because they see the world through a different lens. They are constantly looking at problems, dissecting them, and figuring out the most efficient way to solve them. Sometimes their answers can seem a little far-fetched. Imagine the reactions Henry Ford got when he proposed the car. Most people back then were just looking to make a faster horse and carriage while he was inventing a completely new industry.

7. You want to pursue your passion.

Passion is crucial to being an entrepreneur because it drives motivation. Would you be willing to spend weeks or even months of sleepless nights working on a project that you weren’t passionate about? Probably not. If your 9-to-5 job doesn’t excite you, it may be time to think about entrepreneurship.
