“Margakke Saavilla”, a documentary on the life of Kannada scholar and rationalist M M Kalburgi, who was murdered by two unknown men on August 30, 2015.
The documentary, which will be finished by the third week of February 2016, will be released in Kannada with English subtitles. “Margakke Saavilla” is being funded by Kalburgi’s student Shashidhar Thodkar in Dharwad.
It features over 50 resource persons including Kalburgi’s family members and, scholars and research persons across Karnataka, said K S Parameshwar, director of the documentary.
“We started shooting in September 2015. Some of the few names we spoke to are writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa, researcher Chidananda Murthy, Kannada literature critic Giraddi Govindaraju, Kalburgi’s close friend Siddalinga Pattanashetty, vice-chancellor of Hampi university Mallika Ghanti and Professor Venkat Subbaiah,” said Parameshwara.
He added that through this documentary, they are cover topics that are in the news like intolerance and issues of religion.
“They also talk about their association with M M Kalburgi and what is the current situation like,” he said.
However, Parameshwara said that the investigation part has not been touched upon in the documentary, except two of his friends talking about how disappointed they are with the progress.
