TD FESTIVAL OF SOUTH ASIA TO HOST A LITERARY ARTS WORKSHOP AT TORONTO

TORONTO, ON (July 15, 2016) – As part of its 14th annual event, the TD Festival of South Asia offers those of the Torontonian community the opportunity to participate in an exciting two-day literary arts workshop. The Festival of South Asia Literary Arts Workshop is an event in which participants celebrate and learn from the written compositions of the South Asian community both inside and outside of Toronto. 

For the first time, Literary Arts is being recognized in the history of this festival, and I am very proud to have line-up of contemporary to veteran writers from our community on the panel,” says Tushar Unadkat, festival director/producer.

On July 16th, 2016, participants will join together at the Gerrard Ashdale Library from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm for meet and greets, inspiring book readings and other exciting activities, followed by the launching of the book “Autumn Love” by Harjeet Dhillon.

Best-selling author and motivational speaker, Danish Ahmed plans to deliver an innovative keynote that includes the exploration of the key to overcoming personal struggles and being our “real selves”; as well as an interactive improvisation session.

Also authors from the Progressive Writing Association, including Tahir Aslam Gora, Meena Chopra, Tarek Fatah and Harjeet Dhillon will form a panel to discuss topics regarding the impact that South Asian media and Bollywood has on non-resident Indians. To end the day, Harjeet Dhillon will join us for the launch of her book “Autumn Love”- the story of a young woman whose modern sensibilities and profession contradict with traditional Indian heritage.

On the following day, another workshop will be hosted at the Toronto Tabla Ensemble on 1386 Gerrard St E from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Award-winning Established Dance Artist, Inspirational Speaker and Founder/Director of Limitless Productions, Ashima Suri will speak on the importance of remaining authentic to your own story in today’s mainstream arts industry.

Suri will also utilize dynamic and interactive activities to focus on the five important Cs; Creativity, Creation, Change,Confidence & Collaboration. Later, panelists Jasmine Sawant, Jawaid Danish, Dalbir Singh and Ravi Jain come together for 90 minutes to discuss whether or not South Asian Canadian theatre really embraces any Canadian culture  at all. Lastly, Harjeet Dhillon will join us again for the signing of her new book “Autumn Love”.

 
Other activities pertaining to this South Asian festival will take place on the same days from noon to 11 pm at the Gerrard India Bazaar. Festivalgoers can expected to witness many representations of South Asian culture through literary & visual arts, performances and a wide selection of South Asian dishes.
