The trailer for OK Jaanu begins with Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Tara (Shraddha Kapoor) telling an uncle (Naseeruddin Shah) about their relationship.
They’re not married, nor is marriage part of their plans.
She wants to go to Paris to study architecture, he wants to go to the US to “give Mark Zuckerberg competition”.
Until they do head off to these respective cities, and fulfill their respective dreams, they want to stay together.
In Mumbai.
OK Jaanu — a remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil superhit OK Kanmani, starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen — has been pitched as “a millenial love story”. In a nutshell, the film’s plot is briefly this: “Adi and Tara move to Mumbai to pursue their dreams. A chance meeting sparks off a heady, no strings attached romance until their careers pull them apart. Will ambition prevail over matters of the heart?”
Indeed, after we’re treated to Aditya and Shraddha’s easy chemistry (a throwback to their Aashiqui days) in the first half of the trailer, the latter half depicts the trouble in their paradise, when they must make up their minds about what’s more important to them: staying together, or pursuing their dreams?
Directed by Shaad Ali, OK Jaanu has been co-produced by Nani Ratnam, Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta. It is being distributed by Fox Star Studios and will be in theatres by 13 January 2017.
