When Heath Ledger passed away on January 22, 2008, he left an unfillable void. Over nine years after his death, Spike is releasing a documentary that will feature rare and intimate footage of the actor and revelations by his friends and family.
The Dark Knight has etched its into the annals of a history as cinema par excellence. The film is remembered more for The Joker than the ‘hero’ Batman. Heath’s Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee says, “Even as the supporting actor, he will steal the whole show. That’s the power of Heath Ledger.”
“Heath was the most alive human,” says singer-songwriter Ben Harper, describing his friend. “If it wasn’t on the edge, it didn’t interest him,” he added. The trailer also contains a tribute to the actor from his sister Kate Ledger.
I Am Heath Ledger will premiere on April 23 at the Tribeca Film Festival, and release in limited theatres on May 3.
