The Vault trailer: James Franco-starrer goes from bank heist flick to horror thriller

James Franco-starrer The Vault’s trailer is out. Honestly, when it starts, it appears to be one among Hollywood hackneyed 1990s bank-heist movies where goons barge into a bank in masks and with guns.

There are people who are terrified and bewildered at the same point. Then there is a ‘moustached’ bank chief who, at gun-point, is asked to open the vault. There are policemen outside the bank, all set; but they can’t act as lives of innocent people are at stake.

Yeah, the film’s trailer has all of that. But it is just the first half of the 1.57-minute-long trailer; the other half is what just takes one by surprise. Franco lures the robbers into opening an old vault which lies in an antiquated and dilapidated basement. And then…There are spirits, shadows, unknown figures hovering around, which take a toll on the robbers.

It is one of those rare moments when the film suddenly turns into the story about the bad guys in peril (maybe mortal peril). One of the hostages in the bank says, “There’s something down there…in the basement. We are not alone.” That does take one’s breath away. The background music by Shaun Drew is unnerving and scary.

The Vault, written by Dan Bush and Conal Byrne, also stars Francesca Eastwood, Taryn Manning, Scott Haze, Q’Orianka Kilcher and Clifton Collins Jr, along with Franco. Dan Bush has also helmed this crime/horror thriller which is slated to release on 1 September this year.
