After helming the grave 2014 war film The Monuments Men, George Clooney will return to direction this year with the crime comedy Suburbicon. Since this film from a rather unique genre, traces of levity can be seen in the trailer.
The trailer transports the viewers to the USA of the 1950s and revolves around a family which is at the receiving end of a brutal house invasion. Garndner Lodge, the father, decides to take law into his own hands after the police fail to trace the murderers of his wife.
As intense as the plot may sound, the film has been treated with a pinch of salt. This unique blend of genres speaks volumes of the versatility and innovative capacity that Clooney, as an actor, boasts of. For instance, watch out for the hilarious last scene when Lodge bicycles away after blasting a house.
The Hollywood Reporter states that Clooney’s directorial will premiere at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. It will also be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
This will be Clooney’s sixth directorial after the 2002 spy comedy Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, 2005 historical drama Good Night, and Good Luck, 2008 sports comedy Leatherheads, 2011 political drama The Ides of March and The Monuments Men.
Suburbicon stars Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Oscar Isaac and Josh Brolin. It is co-produced by Clooney and Paramount Pictures among others. It is slated to release on 27 October.
