Do you know that Amitabh Bachchan was rejected by numerous directors and producers because of his unconventional looks and height? He also failed an All India Radio audition test. Similarly, the very famous J.K Rowling was rejected by 12 publishers before Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone was accepted by Bloomsbury. Michael Jordan is another prime example of the power of rejection. He was cut from the basketball team in his school. He was told that he wasn’t good enough!
What made them a success?
…they chose not to give up! There are more names that we can add to the list of highly successful people who were painfully discarded by the world but, like the phoenix bird, they rose from the ashes to become a cult – Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs. So is there something that these people have in common? Yes, their habits…
They take responsibility
Successful people know that they are in charge of their own destiny. You don’t hear them whine about the things that stopped them from success. You won’t hear them make excuses. Instead, they push forward knowing that they are the only thing that will make or break their success.
They conquer themselves, then the world
Many times when you try something new, strive for a better result, something inside you, your inner voice, will attempt to stop you or to slow you down. “Don’t do this, you might get yourself into some unnecessary trouble.” This inner voice is meant to protect you from getting hurt. However, it is the same protective barrier which has prevented a lot of people from moving forward, from making a difference in their life.
They work outside of their comfort zone
The number one thing persistently holding smart people back is their own reluctance to accept an opportunity simply because they don’t think they’re ready. In other words, they feel uncomfortable and believe they require additional knowledge, skill, experience, etc. before they can aptly partake in the opportunity. Sadly, this is the kind of thinking that stifles personal growth and success.
They constantly learn
Successful people believe that learning never ends. This doesn’t mean they’re going to school to get new degrees, although they may. Even without formal education, they’re constantly reading and learning from others around them
They don’t wait for perfection
A lot of people demands perfection before they try their best. There are people who always complain that the time is not ready; they have not acquired all the necessary skills and knowledge to do it, etc. On the other hand, there are people who just give their best shot, learn from their mistake, make improvement, and then proceed further. The more action you take, the more you learn from your mistake, and the more perfect you are.
When they fall, they don’t fall hard
Successful people view every mistake as a learning experience to sharpen their skills. Everyone inevitably experiences setbacks, but how they take the falls are the defining moments that separate the winners from the losers in the long run.
They act decisively
When you know what you want, it all of a sudden becomes a lot easier to set out about choosing everything from where to eat to where you want to work for. All of this has to do about managing time, health and all small aspects of life that help us slowly crawl towards the top.
They are early risers
Have you ever heard the phrase – the early bird catches the worm? Guess what, it’s true! Successful people wake up early and have accomplished more in a.m. than most are able to do by noon. Checking off your to dos early, will motivate you to accomplish more as the day progresses.
They are grateful
If you really pay attention to the successful people around you, you’ll probably notice that not many of them are very negative people. In fact, they seem to exude positivity. Do they have some magic positivity pill? Luckily, the answer is a lot simpler. They’re filled with gratitude about the things around them.
They hang out with selective people
Working hard to achieve your goals only works when you are surrounded with people who make you feel good. You need to be at your best to achieve the big dreams in your life. Negative people just weigh you down. While you can’t avoid every negative interaction, you certainly control the big influencers. Make sure the people who are closest to you support you as a person and what you want to achieve.
They don’t make excuses
Successful people don’t have the word “excuse” in their vocabulary. When you think about your dream, it’s easy to come up with an excuse not to do your best to make it come true. Successful people don’t do that. They are proactive and do their best to overcome each obstacle that comes their way. After all, if you don’t believe in your dream, why would anyone else?
They aren’t afraid of failure
There’s a popular saying which states that success happens outside your comfort zone. It’s true. In order to become successful, you have to push yourself and suppress your fear of failure. Failure isn’t the worst thing that can happen. At least you can learn something when you make a mistake. No trying is the worst.
They ask more questions than give answers
Our egos paralyze us the moment we’re about to ask a question. That fear of judgment is crippling. Rather than asking and gaining new knowledge, we protect our image and remain mired in our lack of knowledge. Successful people are ignorant of judgment and protecting their ego. They prefer growth in asking questions. The inability to ask inhibits our personal growth.
They trust their intuition
Throughout history, intuition has been a proven asset for successful people. For example, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Simon Cowell, Conrad Hilton and Donald Trump have all publicly acknowledged how much they are guided by their intuition. Steve Jobs reminded the employees at Apple to: ‘Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition; everything else is secondary.’
They master the art of discipline
Successful people will sacrifice their social life for a few months to achieve a goal, get up two hours earlier each morning to get to the gym, or say ‘No’ to cake when wanting to lose weight. They make decisions about what behaviour best reflects their goals and values and many even have a mission statement.
They have the right attitude
Successful people think about what they want and formulate a plan to achieve it. They don’t sit around dwelling on what they don’t have, what they’ve missed, and how they have gotten screwed over.
