Sci-fi movies need not be massive blockbusters with insane CGI set pieces and A-list celebrities — so long as you’ve got an intriguing premise, interesting and relatable characters, and (if you absolutely need them) a few passable special effects.
Written and directed by Jason Stone (The Calling), the movie follows a young woman, Alex Lainey (played by Stefanie Scott), who gains supernatural/psychokinetic abilities after encountering a collection of strange lights underwater. Whether these lights are alien or something else entirely is part of the plot’s central mystery.
At First Light will debut simultaneously in select theaters.
