Enemy at the gates

The American business magnate John. D Rockefeller once said “I always tried to turn every disaster into an opportunity”. While the objective of Rockefeller, widely considered the wealthiest American of all time, was decidedly to inspire his fellow Americans into achieving their dreams, the years of unbridled ambition degenerating into rapacity have reduced the once motivational line to a war whoop for the greedy to embark once again on their […]

Trumpery Times

Award winning American actress Tina Fey is of the opinion that “confidence is 10% work and 90 % delusion”, but one suspects that had she been exposed to the bizarre psychology of the orange haired buffoon a little earlier she would have been forced to revise the 10% to an even more insignificant figure. History has yet to see a likeness in a position of such authority who while suffering […]

Cons Of The Pros

During the 1987 Cricket World Cup in India during one of the group matches, England were set a target of 240 runs in their 50 overs by Pakistan. This was of course a formidable score during that time. At one stage England were cantering along, with Mike Gatting and Allan Lamb scoring relatively easily. A true batsman should in his most of his strokes tell the truth about himself”. And so they do, but while the object of Neville’s subjective, romantic pieces and his flowery prose were the flamboyant wizards of the willow, […]

Castling Cannes

The famous American author John C. Maxwell said “ A lack of realism in the vision today costs credibility tomorrow”. This could very well apply to the Indian film industry where most of the scripts celebrate the make believe and maintaining the semblance of reality is essentially an afterthought. Suspension of disbelief is a term that is not only missing from the lexicon not because realism has been suspended but […]

The foreign hand

Somebody said “Value your opinion, it’s worth as much as theirs”. But this simple yet so effective message seems to be lost on many Indians. Possibly patches of the colonial mentality endure behind the sheen of modernity and progress !!! A commonplace article by a designated ‘Time ‘ magazine author labeling Narendra Modi as the Divider-in-Chief seemed to have the cannonballs rolling for the political opponents to load their artillery […]

50 Lakh Lost Jobs Over 2 Years, Trend Began Just After Notes Ban: Report

Fifty lakh men lost their jobs in the past two years beginning November 2016, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an overnight ban on high value currency, according to a new report. The timing of the start of the decline in jobs coincides with demonetisation but no “causal link” can be established based on the available data, says the “State of Working India 2019”, released Tuesday by the Centre for […]
