Even as Diwali preparations get underway, Mumbai and Delhi are under high alert and security has been beefed up in the country’s commercial capital. This is after a twitter handle warned of possible attacks in Delhi and Mumbai during Diwali. The ANI chief has forwarded the tweet to Home Ministry’s official twitter handle.
Though at the moment this Twitter threat remain largely unidentified and the credibility of the tweet is questionable, security has been beefed up in most crowded areas in Mumbai like the local trains, shopping malls and the like. The tweet has been sent from a handle whose user name is @AamirWaseem87. As a precautionary measure and though there is no mention of any specific target or even time line, there are concerns that explosives could possibly be mixed with firecrackers for the attacks.
As per sources, various arms of the Police as well as Railway Security agencies have been asked to gather possible information that can help towards ascertaining the credibility of the threat sent.Anti-terror cells have been created across Mumbai to monitor any terror related development or gather all kinds of related intelligence. As a security measure more police postings across railways stations in the city has also been implemented.
The situation in Delhi is also petty sensitive especially after the death caused by explosion in Naya Bazaar. Security no doubt has been tightened from all sides and intelligence reports raise a potential worry of an attack in any of Delhi’s crowded market place. Mock drills are being conducted across Railways stations and all commuter’s luggage is also under the scanner.
While the jury is still out on the veracity of tweet as the saying goes it is better to be safe than sorry. This Diwali if you are in Mumbai or Delhi it is better to cooperate with the security forces and help them weed out the scourge of terrorism that seeks to scar our festivities time and again. On Clamorworld we wish you a safe and happy Diwali.
