The Haryana government on Saturday transferred Fatehabad superintendent of police Sangeeta Kalia, a day after she was involved in a spat with the state health minister, Anil Vij.
A government press release stated that Kalia had been posted as the commandant of the 4th IRB, Manesar, while IPS officer OM Prakash will succeed her as the SP in Fatehabad.
Vij had triggered outrage on Friday after a video showed him angrily asking Kalia to leave a district grievances’ committee meeting in Fatehabad.
When the SP refused , Vij walked out of the meeting hall at Panchayat Bhawan. He later told the media that he would take up the matter with chief minister and warned that till Kalia was the Fatehabad SP, he would not attend any grievances meeting there.
The minister also accused the SP of having an irresponsible attitude.“Representatives of an NGO, whose complaint I was listening to, also told me that they are not getting any kind of help from the police,” he added.
The SP had refused to comment on the incident, insisting that the media knew everything.
Some officials present at the meeting said the trouble started after a local NGO complained about the rampant sale of alcohol in the Ratia area of the state bordering Punjab. The minister demanded an explanation from the SP, who said that though about 2,500 cases had been registered for the illegal sale of alcohol in the region, the sellers resumed their illicit business after coming out of jail.
Not satisfied with her explanation, the minister enquired whether the police were involved in such cases. When the SP denied any complicity, Vij allegedly asked her to “get out” of the meeting hall. When the SP refused, the minister walked out instead, the sources said.
