The I, Tonya red band trailer is here. Watch it—but only if you want to have nightmares about Margot Robbie. The Australian actress sports crimped hair, bedazzled lycra, and a take-no-prisoners attitude as infamous figure skater Tonya Harding.
The trailer brings viewers back to January 1994, when, following a practice session at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Stoneham native and chief Harding rival Nancy Kerrigan was hit in the knee with a police baton by Shane Stant. Kerrigan was forced to withdraw from the competition, in which Harding won gold. Harding later pleaded guilty to conspiring to hinder prosecution, but avoided jail time. Stant, Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gilooly, co-conspirator Shawn Eckardt, and getaway driver Derrick Smith all served time in prison for the attack.
You’ll be able to see I, Tonya in theatres from December 8.
