Patna bound Vasco Da Gama train derailed in the early hours of Friday. Three killed
In the latest updates on the Vasco Da Gama-Patna express accident, at least three people are reportedly killed till now, leaving nine injured. The Vasco Da Gama-Patna express train derailed near the Manikpur Railway station in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Friday, November 24, 2017.
Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal stated that an ex-gratia compensation of 5 Lakh INR shall be provided to the kin of the ones who died in the accident of the train. Whereas 1 lakh INR shall be provided to those who have sustained severe injuries, while for other injured people, 50,000 INR which is as equal as to the auto accident injury claims which is given to victims who have sustained heavy injuries after the accident. The train derailed while it was on its route from Goa to Patna. The time of the accident was around 4:14 AM IST. Due to the derailment of the Vasco Da Gama train, the movement of other trains was affected as well. The Patna Allahabad route was affected at its worst. Commenting and confirming the number of casualties, Chitrakoot SP Pratap Gopengra Singh said that a father-son duo from Bettiah, Bihar died on the spot, while another person died while on their way to the hospital. Of all the injured, two were in a serious condition, and were admitted to the nearest hospital, while seven others suffered from minor injuries and are being treated at Manikpur itself.
The train, bound for Patna derailed soon after leaving the second platform of the Manikpur Railway station in Chitrakoot District, approximately 250 kms from Lucknow.
As the time progressed, Piyush Goyal, the Union Railway Minister directed his comments to Twitter. One of them being- “Immediate rescue and relief operations started and an inquiry ordered into the derailment of Vasco De Gama – Patna Express at Manikpur, UP. My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.”
