Twenty seven years after his Test debut and four years after he retired from the sport, a movie is being made about the life of Sachin Tendulkar. Titled Sachin: A Billion Dreams, the trailer of the film gives a glimpse into the high and low points of the cricketer’s life.
The trailer of the film starts with a scene from Tendulkar’s childhood where he deflates a car tyre. He says that his journey in cricket began when India won the World Cup in 1983. We hear the voice of his wife’s character saying that the family had accepted they would come second after cricket in Tendulkar’s life.
The trailer also features some real life footage from the cricketer’s life. “Cricket khelna mere liye mandir jaane ki tarah tha,” he says. The resounding voice of fans screaming his name is the most memorable part of the trailer.
The film stars Tendulkar himself, his son Arjun and Mayuresh Prem, who essays the role of Nitin Tendulkar. The plot will touch upon the most memorable moments of his professional and personal life.
In an interview about this film, Tendulkar said, “For so many years, I did whatever I wanted to do and the camera captured that. Suddenly I was asked to do particular things and then the camera captured that, so it was a bit different for me. Believe me, the first option was better… Acting is not something that I dreamt of. Without any doubt, acting was more challenging than playing cricket. I enjoyed playing more.”
This is the third movie to be based on a cricketer’s life after MS Dhoni – the Untold Story and Azhar.
Sachin: A Billion Dreams is scheduled to release on 26 May, 2017. It is directed by James Erskine and the music of the film is produced by AR Rahman.
