Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan, director Ribhu Dasgupta and producer Sujoy Ghosh launched the first trailer of upcoming Hindi film TE3N on Thursday at an event in Mumbai. The thriller is expected to hit the theatres on June 10, 2016.
In the fast-paced trailer, John Biswas (Amitabh) is seen trying to figure out the mystery behind the disappearance of his grandchild, Angel. The video establishes the three lead characters – Vidya Balan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amitabh Bachchan. Big B plays a grandfather while Nawaz and Vidya essay the roles of a priest and a cop respectively. The film has been shot extensively in Kolkata.
Given the past record of the people involved (Sujoy-Vidya worked together in Kahaani (2012) while Amitabh and Ribhu have collaborated on the TV show Yudh in 2014), we expect an edge-of-the-seat thriller. The crisp scene transitions and a Durga Puja visual bring back memories of Kahaani.
TE3N was slated for a May 20 release. However, when it came to light that it would clash with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Sarbjit, her father-in-law asked the makers to postpone the date of its release.
Speaking at the launch, Bachchan said, “I am delighted to work with Vidya and Nawaz. I get to learn so much from artists like them. I love learning the craft from young talent. I admire the way they approach the scenes.”
Gushing about Bachchan, Vidya said, “When I looked at him, I felt that he was the character and that really amazed me. The script was another reason why I signed the movie.”
Elaborating on their promotional strategy, Sujoy said, “We want the audience to promote the film. We have tied up with 60,000 graphic designers to take the campaign titled ‘TE3nitaround’ ahead. You can make posters, songs and give us any other ideas.”
