It was not long ago that we saw Angelina Jolie pack a few punches in Simon West’s 2001 action adventure Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and in its sequel, Jan De Bont’s 2003 film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Now, in a reboot of Jolie’s franchise, Alicia Vikander will play the titular role in Roar Uthaug’s Tomb Raider.
The trailer of the film is out and it looks promising to say the least. Academy Award winner Vikander, who impressed critics with her performance in Tom Hooper’s 2015 romantic drama The Danish Girl, assumes a gritty avatar in Tomb Raider as she plays the titular role of Lara Croft, a popular video game figure from the 1990s. To the trailer’s credit, the stunts and other visuals look eerily similar and even more graphic than the video game.
The two minute long trailer also does a commendable job in transporting the universe to Croft’s universe and establishing the basic parameters of the story. It maintains a good balance between luring the viewers through its action and gripping them with its storyline.
Tomb Raider also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Dominic West, Hannah John-Kamen and Antonio Aakeel. It is co-produced by Warner Bros Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, GK Films and Square Enix. It is slated to release on 16 March, 2018.
