A day after video images exposed Pakistan’s Govt’s brutality in PoK or Pak occupied Kashmir, it is of course double speak and volte-face time for the Pakistani foreign affairs department and their National Security Advisor, Sartaj Aziz.
Of course the red faced Pakistani Govt will have us believe that the video recordings and those images of utmost brutality are all fake and apparently just a propaganda exercise by the India media. It goes on to add that nearly 90,000 Kashmiris have lost their lives in Kashmir as a result of force used by Indian forces. By the same logic, I want to ask Mr Aziz that what exactly is the basis of arriving at this number and why I should not believe that it is a fake propaganda by the Pakistani authorities?
Additionally the huge number of lives lost in the past decade across Kashmir has a lot to do with the militancy and acts of terror that the Pakistani Govt has thus far encourages across the valley. Be it the Kargil War, the attacks at holy places like Hazratbal Mosque or the Charar e Sharif or the Kheer Bhawani temple are not incidents that one is likely to forget ina hurry. The fact that Pakistan shelters Taliban is open secret now. Infact the several incidents of violence within Pakistan as a result of sheltering these disruptive forces is speaks volumes about the Govt’s hypocrisy and double speak.
If you run your eyes through the comment section of any of the leading Pakistani dailies, the average citizens outrage at the Govt’s violent actions and disruptive policy is clearly evident. But then who are we to question Pakistani National Security Advisor, Sartaj Aziz? Afterall he says, “Pakistan remains committed to finding a just and peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Pakistan’s principled position on the Kashmir dispute is based on the UN Security Council Resolutions, which remain unimplemented to this day.”
My question then is why was no effort made to honour the Ufa agreement, why was the recent NSA level talks shelved and why at all thus he sound so exuberant about the supposed raising of Pakistani flags in J&K.
Sartaj Aziz had said that, Pakistan is steadfast in extending political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir in their just struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination.” So why exactly is it trying to crush the public opinion in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir as brutally as we saw in video clippings yesterday? Why can’t Pakistan make a beginning with respecting wishes of the residents in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir? Didn’t we learn, Charity begins at home!
