With Inferno releasing in India on 14 October — a whole two weeks before it is scheduled to open in theatres in the US — a special ‘India exclusive’ trailer has been unveiled by Sony Pictures on YouTube for audiences here.
The trailer, that features all the principal actors — Tom Hanks, Irrfan Khan and Felicity Jones — clocks in at just under a minute-and-a-half but teases some of Inferno’s thrilling sequences.
Director Ron Howard in back helming yet another Robert Langdom film, based on the books by Dan Brown.
Inferno sees symbologist (Tom Hanks) once again attempting to foil a plot that may well wipe out the earth’s population. He wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, and teams up with Dr Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), in the hopes of recovering his memories. Their joint mission — to save the world, and revive Langdon’s memories — takes them on a deadly race across Europe, and brings them up against Irrfan Khan’s character.
Irrfan Khan revealed that he was initially offered a different part in the movie, but convinced Ron Howard to cast him in another role. “When Ron sent me the script, he offered me a part and I read it, but there was another part which you are seeing me in now, I asked him if I can do this part. He remained silent for a month and came back and asked why I wanted to choose this part,” Irrfan told IANS.
The actor added, “I told him my take on the character and he loved it, so, then he offered me this role. He is an enigmatic kind of a person and you don’t get to know what he is up to.”
Irrfan also commented on growing competition to Bollywood at the box office from big Hollywood films. “(The market for Hollywood in India) is growing very rapidly. Indian films are getting affected by it. By the way it is going I think it is going to capture (the market here). In other countries also Hollywood has captured the market…It is a challenge for Indian film industry. They have to pull their socks up,” said the actor, who has previously been seen in Hollywood projects like The Namesake, A Mighty Heart, Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, The Amazing Spider-Man and Jurassic World.
Inferno is releasing in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in India.
