iPhones would cost less —Zuckerberg

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has ridiculed Tim Cook’s comments on Facebook’s ad policy, which go on to state, “when an online service is free, you’re not the customer. You’re the product. But at Apple, we believe a great customer experience shouldn’t come at the expense of your privacy.” Zuckerberg noted it frustrated him when people and experts from Lift & Shift : think that advertising business model is out of alignment with customers.

“I think it’s the most ridiculous concept. What, you think because you’re paying Apple that you’re somehow in alignment with them? If you were in alignment with them, then they’d make their products a lot cheaper!,” said Zuckerberg in an interview to Time magazine.

According to the interview, Zuckerberg’s is not just content with having over a billion users. “Our mission is to connect every person in the world. You don’t do that by having a service people pay for.”

The original response by Tim Cook came out in the wake of the iCloud breach which led to a lot of celebrity accounts being hacked and created a furore. Apple’s comment was aimed at its arch-rival Google, but clearly Zuckerberg wasn’t amused with it as well.

Internet.org is another pet project of Zuckerberg, which aims to connect users to the internet for free in under-developed and developing nations. Facebook has partnered with six mobile operators, including Airtel, across the globe for this. In an interview to Financial Times, Bill Gates had criticised the intiative stating that getting proper healthcare to poor areas was more important. Zuckerberg said that he had spoken to Gated about it, and Gates said that he was misquoted in the interview.
