Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hit out at cow vigilantes, saying he felt enraged at such “anti-social elements” who indulged in crimes by the night and masqueraded as cow protectors by the day.

Speaking at a Town Hall-style meeting here, Modi said he has asked state governments to prepare a dossier of people who are “running shops” in the name of cow protection and put so-called “gau rakshaks” on a tight leash.
