The ministry of human resource development is inviting applications for the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan 2016. The scheme is meant for Indian nationals who wish to pursue a master’s degree or PhD. The study is tenable in the UK from September-October 2016.
Applicants should not be more than 40 years (as on October 8, 2015). Candidates who have already been abroad for studies/training/specialisation either on scholarship or on their own for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply if they have been in India for at least two consecutive years after returning. The applications are invited in areas such as engineering, technology, pure and applied science, agriculture, humanities and social sciences. Applications in more than one field and one course will be rejected.
An IELTS test will be considered if taken after October 1, 2015 and before March 6, 2016. Stipend will be given at the rate of £1,034 ( Rs. 1.034 lakh approximately) per month or £1,268 ( Rs. 1.268 lakh approximately) per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area. A thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation would be granted wherever applicable. It also includes study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas. For PhD scholars, fieldwork grant towards the cost of fieldwork undertaken overseas (usually the cost of one economy class return airfare to scholar fieldwork location) will also be given.
Only shortlisted candidates would be called for interview and the selection committee consisting of subject experts will interview the candidates. Awards are tenable at any approved university of higher education institution with which the CSC has a part-funding agreement. A list of these institutions is available here .
