‘Demonetisation Anthem’ by actor Silambarasan

‘Demonetisation Anthem’ by actor Silambarasan

The team of the upcoming Tamil film Thatrom Thookrom has released a new single titled Demonetisation Anthem, and it is anything but flattering

Actor Silambarasan’s song ‘Demonetization Anthem’ from Thatrom Thookrom was published on YouTube on Wednesday and has received more than 9 lakh views. The song was written Kabilan Vairamuthu and was sung by the actor.

Sung by actor Silambarasan and with words that sting by Kabilan Vairamuthu, the song lashes out at government’s decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on the night of November 8, 2016.

The song starts with, “The two notes of Gandhi have gone missing” and “Banks and ATMS ran asku busku (empty)”. The visuals show ordinary people standing in long queues while the song points out that those like businessman Vijay Mallya escaped to foreign countries despite debt.

The music video shows laudatory tweets on demonetisation posted by Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, as Silambarasan sings “The citizen has given his support (Rajinikanth) and has extended blind support (Kamal Haasan).”  The song takes a dig at the Goods and Services Tax, too.
