Monkeys shock researchers by grieving over ‘dead’ robotic spy baby

Feeling empathy and bereavement are not exclusively human experiences. Footage filmed for BBC’s Spy in the Wild series has revealed that animals can also be capable of emotions and react in ways that could be described as ‘humane’.

It shows a troop of langur monkeys in India mistaking a robotic camera that resembled a baby monkey to be one of its own. Later they even mourn for the robot after believing that it had died.

The primates are not only seen crowding around the robot like friends and family but also embracing each other for comfort. Click on the link below to view the video:
