Powerful, hypnotic, captivating, stunning….one could just run of adjectives while describing Bajirao Mastani’s trailer. The audience along with actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, both of whom were watching the trailer for the first time were left speechless after watching glimpses of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus.
The trailer begins with a slow motion shot of Ranveer Singh dressed as the famed Maratha warrior Bajirao riding a galloping horse with Mastani arriving on her horse and overtaking him dramatically. Cut to the next scene, one sees Priyanka Chopra looking heavenly in the nine-yard waving the victory flag as Bhansali wastes no time in introducing his lead characters.
The trailer is skillfully paced with sword fighting scenes, an intimate encounter between Priyanka and Ranveer and battlefield shots.
What deserves a special mention is the the war sequences. Scores of warriors in action along with long distant shots of horses and elephants as were used in the days of yore make for a compelling cinematic watch. The scene that stays in mind is the one where Ranveer jumps high up in the air to reach the top of an elephant to slay his enemy.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali impresses with his direction as always by expecting marshalling his characters in the complex as the trailer. Ranveer looks handsome as the hot blooded alpha male Bajirao while Deepika as Mastani and Priyanka as Kashibai fit their bill to the T. Dialogues laced with poetic effect have been carefully written including the very effective line’Bajirao Aiaash Nahi tha’. If this is the trailer, we can only pray for God to fast forward time to 18th December.
