A group of amateur explorers has stumbled upon a set of dinosaur bones in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district.
The discovery, made in Bagh forest area, is believed to be one of the most striking findings of dinosaur remains in India.
A team of palaeontologists on Tuesday unearthed a huge bunch of dinosaur bones, including leg bones and three bones of cervical vertebrate, that could shed light on the life of the extinct creature
The same group of palaeontologists had discovered over 100 dinosaur eggs in the same area in 2007, believed to date 60 million years back.
“We have found leg bones of one individual dinosaur, most likely a younger one from the Bagh Kukshi site that falls in the periphery of the Dinosaur Fossil Park. While the length of the dinosaur leg bone is 6 feet, the age could be between 80 to 230 million years,” Vishal Verma, the man behind the discovery of dinosaur eggs in 2007, told Mail Today.
And the revelations do not just stop there. The explorers also found cervical vertebrate, coracoids, lower part of scapula, ribs and other bones, Verma added.
“The bones were recovered from the sedimentary horizon from some of the oldest rocks in Narmada valley. The discovery of bones would also help in determining Nimad sandstone’s age,” he explained.
The excavations launched in May 2014 and the discovery of complete bones will allow for a more complete picture of what the entire animal looked like when it entered central India.
The team has submitted a report to the district administration to preserve the site so that researchers can have a new scientific insight into the species, Vishal said.
